While application submission deadlines start in October through March, do yourself a favor and get your applications started!
Why?
Your name, address, GPA, parent's education level and all of that other fun stuff to identify who you are will not change between now and the application deadlines. Starting your app now will give you a jump start. Gets the tedious stuff out of the way. Applications opened on August 1st for colleges and universities across the country. Some schools have their own application submission schedule. E.g. Cal State and UC campuses: Application period: Oct. 1- Nov. 30.
Direct Admissions
The world of college applications is always changing.
The newest wrinkle: direct admissions for low/middle income first generation students. Some public and state colleges (not the California State Universities or University of California schools) are using the Common Application and Niche.com to search for students. They are notified when an eligible student fills in demographic and transcript information. Each college has its own criteria, Being a first generation of low-middle income student Is the trigger. If student matches the GPA and income levels, they will receive a Direct Admissions invitation. These colleges include Portland State, Or; University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA; University of Nevada, Reno; University of La Verne; Whittier College. The college will also send a financial aid or merit offer. You have until the regular deadline of May 1 to accept. Imagine how good it feels to have at least one college acceptance in your pocket!
